2011: A Year in Review

2011

A started running, I'm still running. That's kinda cool. My daughter uses me as a guinea pig and review / inspirational material for her course. Luc started running with me in November so I wouldn't have to run in the dark by myself. He's doing fantastic. I think he's enjoying himself. He's got himself hooked up on Runkeeper and Myfitnesspal.

I maintained for the most part a "get healthy" mind set. Camping season I went a little haywire (ice cream, beer and steak) gained back 16lbs of the almost 40 I had lost.

Year 3 of camping season was ok. It rained the first three months which really isn't good for business. We had the nicest weather of the season, after we were closed. That kinda sucks.

Work is, well, same old same old. Nothing really changed. A whole year of the same.

Home life in general is good. Nothing to complain about. Which is much better than a lot of people. We went on our cruise in April. It was good, we had fun for the most part. Luc was sick with a head cold for most of it. I went snorkeling and that was freaking cool. My favorite part of the whole cruise.

We also took a little camping trip after camping closed in the Hillbilly Hut. Spent a few days in Cape Breton. Took the ferry to PEI. Drove to Moncton and then raced at the Legs for Literacy race. 10K.

Health is good. Probably much better since I started being health conscious. At the end of the year, I still haven't lost all the weight I gained back during camping season. As of writing, I still have 4 lbs to go. But I think I've lost more inches.

I'd also like to add for posterity's sake that it has been unusually warm this fall. I'm still wearing a sweater to work. I've only had to wear a fall coat to work twice, I think. Really bizarre weather. One snow storm in November and nothing at all in December. I hope we get some snow soon. Snow means money in our house.

Well I guess that's all for now.

I'd like to wish all my readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

A Christmas tidbit

My favorite Christmas special is A Year Without a Santa Claus

My favorite part of the show are the songs from Snow Miser and Heat Miser.

Enjoy your earworm for the day. I know I will

What a crazy week

I did over 11 hours of exercise this week. I was a workout machine. And it showed on my long run. I knocked 20 seconds off my pace for 10k yesterday. I know it's supposed to be a long SLOW run, but I try to speed things up if I can and feel like it to make up for the slower than I should be going runs during the week.

My runs during the week are slower because my husband is joining me. It gets dark here at 5pm, so he joins me so I don't have to run in the dark by myself.  He is enjoying himself. He's seeing weight loss results which is keeping him motivated. He's looking at the schedule to see what we need to do for the day / week. We're talking about pace. He mocks me when I can't keep up to him (ie after I've already run a 10k that day) *insert eyeroll here*  I think he's training for a 10k race. He just doesn't know it yet. Moncton 2012, I think.

According to Runkeeper I set all kinds of personal records this week. Over 6 hours of running (There is a lot of walking in there too), 466 metres in elevation climbs, 36.7 km run. Excellent.

Now I'm looking at my single best activity. 12.9 km on July 18, 2011. I think that will be my Christmas present to myself. My long run on Christmas day is supposed to be 13km. I think I'll run the same route and see if I can't beat that time.

This week coming up is a taper week. 4 runs of 5km only. I'll probably do 2 5km's on Sunday. One at speed and one slow one. I'll have to add some other exercise in there to make up for it. Some gym classes maybe.

In other news I finally broke the decade for weight loss. That was a hard battle. And I managed to keep it off over the weekend too. WOOT! We indulged in crackers and cheese and pepperoni and dips. And drink. I only have 7 more pounds to go to be back at the weight I was in June. And 19 pounds to get to goal.

This is what December looks like so far:

Total Distance: 56.1 KM
Total Duration: 9:09:54
Average Pace: 10:11 per km
Average Speed: 6:00 km per hour

Tis the season to be jolly

At this time of year, it's hard not to eat and drink to excess. There's Christmas parties, and cookie exchanges and get togethers with friends and family.

Friday night was my work christmas party. Here's me, all gussied up and ready to go.

Saturday was bake-a-palooza. Cookies galore. I actually didn't make as many as I wanted. Baking with a hangover just kinda sorta sucks. But I made some and I ate some.

Sunday was Tammi's cookie exchange. The cookies were fantastic.

What did I do to ward off the cookie monster (aka weight gain) ? I did 30 minutes on the treadmill Friday night and I did a 10k Sunday morning. We were supposed to do another 5k after supper, but the weekend's gluttony finally took it's toll. We'll do the extra 5k on Monday and carry on.
